So it’s been a couple of weeks since the cd release, and I’ve been waiting for a chance to sit down and write a little post mortem blog on all the exciting stuff that has been going on! First off, thank you to everyone who came to the show. There were people from every circle in my life – family, friends, coworkers, fellow new mums, C3E folks, old classmates. I was so happy to have a full audience to sing to. You all sure know how to make a girl feel special and supported!
I posted the link on all my social media forums to my friend Kristy Wolfe’s photography blog, but I wanted to share some of my favorite pictures from the evening that she took. Kristy is so great at capturing special moments, and I was so spoiled to have her show up at the show with her camera and catch some of my precious moments from that night.
There were also a few videos that friends captured on their various smart phones, that I wanted to share for those of you who couldn’t make it out. First of all, the sweetest video of my little man boppin’ along to the song I wrote for him:
And one of my favorite songs of the night, with some killer steel guitar by Darrek Anderson:
I was also thrilled to get to sit down with Roger Levesque from the Edmonton Journal the week prior to the show, and chat about “Tree of Life” and the process of recording while I was on maternity leave, and some of the stories on how the songs came to be on the album. We met at Remedy on Jasper in the middle of a blizzard and chatted over chai and he is honestly such a wonderful man! If you didn’t get a chance to read the article, you can check it out here!
The very next day after the show I was back at work at the YWCA Edmonton, where the welcome back was very warm indeed and I missed all my coworkers over the year I was at home with Asher. It has been a transition getting back into the swing of work, and learning to juggle YW work, catering work, music, baby, a new pup and a spare moment for myself (so far I haven’t gotten too many of those – hence why it’s taken me a while to get to this blog!) but I’m getting there!
Three days after the show, Asher turned one! WHAT THE HECK?! I realize it’s cliche and predictable, but seriously where the heck did the year go? Oh right, having a baby, travelling, recording and releasing an album… when I think of all the things that I did in 2013 it does seem like the year was long and jam packed full of fun stuff, but at the same time when did my brand new baby become a one year old boy? Oh vey. I guess this really does mean I’m an adult.
To celebrate Asher’s birthday I had a fun little “cake smash” photoshoot with my favorite family photographer Kristen J. Photography. This is just a sneak peek and I can’t wait to see the rest.
So there you have it, a whirlwind couple of weeks that’s for sure. I feel like I’m still recuperating, but I’ll tell ya life is pretty good these days.
Until next time! Cheers. xo
