Well I am thrilled to say, after taking my time over the last few months since I submitted the masters to Rawlco Radio, we are officially finished designing the album packaging for “Tree of Life”!
After spending the first 6 months of Asher’s life in the studio, completely consumed with recording, mixing and mastering I was ready to take a little break in August and focus on my family…
Since my July 31st deadline to Rawlco, Jered, Asher & I hit up the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, went on two killer camping trips (one with friends, one just our wee family unit), made two quick trips to Medicine Hat, went to Puerta Vallarta to celebrate my 30th birthday, spent a long weekend in Banff, and now as I write this I’m in Vancouver visiting family! Oh, and we catered 10 large scale weddings, launched a new catering website and prepped over 2000 pieces of baking, 500 meatballs, 500 cabbage rolls and deboned 400 lbs of turkey for the upcoming Christmas season. Needless to say, it’s been a crazy couple of months!
In the midst of all this we also lost two dear friends – Michael James Page, who I met through Jered when he was working at a special needs kids camp in Medicine Hat, recently passed away after a heroic fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Michael has touched our life in a way I’ve never experienced and in his memory we decided to give Asher a second middle name – Asher Lewis Michael Evangelos. We also had to suddenly put down our sweet dog (and first baby) Otis after a struggle with kidney failure and then a series of strokes and seizures. It has been a tough few weeks.
The light at the end of the tunnel has been getting ready to release this album. How funny to have this state of limbo after submitting it to “the funding authorities” and then waiting a few months to share it with the masses. I feel like this album has been my own precious little secret, Jered and I have been listening to it in spurts in our home just savouring what we have worked so hard to create. I can’t wait for you to hear it.
The album and a new website will be launched hopefully November 30th. Stay tuned for confirmation of that date. I’ll be spreading the word over the interwebs though, so it won’t be too hard to find!
And… drumroll please! Here is the sneak peek of the album design. Photography by Ashley Champagne, the design of the album booklet by Code Word Media Design – Kasia Gawlak.
What’s that? You want ANOTHER sneak peek? Well…. ok! Here is so far my favourite song on the album. A song I wrote for my grandparents, called “Legacy.” I hope you love it.
Well too much excitement for this mama! Off to bed for me.
