Exactly 4 years ago while I was 35 weeks pregnant with my dear little Wren, I got an email saying I was a finalist in the Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Contest. It ended up being the start of a pretty crazy little adventure down to Texas, to sing in the New Folk concert series. I met some amazing people and played for probably the most engaged, appreciative, songwriter enthusiastic crowd of my life. I didn’t “win” the contest, but being one of the top 32 was an experience I’ll never forget.
Every year since I’ve crossed my fingers, toes, eyes… and submitted songs to their contest. This year I came close as an alternate to the top 32. I’ll take honourable mention! Although it’s a very slim chance I’ll be heading down to the festival next month, I’m pretty thrilled to be on the list at all. Thanks Dalis for all you and your team do to celebrate songwriting!
