It’s that time of year again, time for the ATB Financial Alberta Song Contest! Each year they hold a contest where you can submit a new, original, un-released song about Alberta (how it makes you feel, a memory you have, etc – it’s quite open on the subject front as long as it’s Alberta related) for a chance to win $10,000!
This year is my third year submitting (what do they say about third times a charm?). I don’t usually sit down to write a song about a certain topic (more a fly by my seat songwriter) so it’s a fun challenge. And if anyone knows me, you know that I. LOVE. ALBERTA. So it definitely isn’t hard to find inspiration to write a song and sing about my home province!
Also this is a great opportunity for there to be a deadline, and to push myself in the midst of chaotic daily life – working two jobs, taking care of a wee babe – and record some new music for fun. SO.. all of that to introduce my entry to this year’s ATB Financial Alberta Song Contest. This is my song called “Where I Belong.”
Recorded and mixed by Dave Palmer in his sweet home studio here in Edmonton, Ryan Jacobson on acoustic and electric guitar, as well as bass (multi-talented guy obviously), the hubs Jered on drums, while I’m singing along with myself on vocals. With the kids put to bed and babysat, here’s what we came up with in an evening of recording fun! I hope you enjoy it!
Cheers!

PS – Finalists announced on September 8th, so stay tuned! Fingers crossed I make the top 5! xox
